DragonflyCMS Convertor

This convertor can be used to convert an existing DragonflyCMS 9.2.x standard forum to phpBB3.  This forum is based on the phpBB2 convertor as the Dragonfly forums are a derivative of that version.

The convertor has been well tested on 9.2.1 but should work well with any 9.2.x version. It is designed to work with the standard integrated forums and not with Forums Pro.

DragonflyCMS Converter 0.9.06

Please drop me a line if you use this convertor; I’m very interested in any feedback you might have.

Features

This convertor is a drop-in mod for the phpBB3 installer (just place the two files in the convertor sub-directory under the install directory) and a new option for DragonflyCMS will appear in convertors screen).  Just follow the conversion process and fill in (or change if your installation is different) the various boxes.  The conversion takes care of the rest, and will convert the following data (copying images and files where required):

  • Users (and avatars)
  • Ranks
  • Smilies
  • Groups
  • Forums (all categories, forums, sub-forums, forum-links, topics, posts, polls, attachments and topic icons)
  • Private Messages
  • Administrators
  • Common System Settings

Technical

  • Compatibility: phpBB 3.0.10, DF 9.2.x

Notes

Use a relative path from your phpBB3 install to the Dragonfly forums module as the value for “forum path”.

Before beginning the conversion you must set your system timezone in DF (Admin -> Forums -> Forums Tab -> Configuration) to the same time zone as your hosts server (see this post for more information).  Remember to set this back in phpBB after the conversion so your guests have the times you would like.

  1. Hi there,
First I just want to say thank you so much that you created this scripts and that is what am looking for. I used it to convert my Drangonfly CMS to PhpBB 3.X I got stuck where the script is looking for bbbanlist table and my table is bbdisalow. Can you give me instruction where I can change the table name on the script to march the table name on the Dragonfly? Thanks

    • BC

Thanks for the feedback. After looking into it I can see that the DF installer doesn’t create the bbbanlist table any more so I must have it in my install from an earlier version – this is now fixed (from 0.9.01) so just re-download the convertor and try it again.

  2. Hi Brokencrust,

thanks a lot for this great convertor which (might) save me from the “DF trap” i am currently sitting in.

However, I am encountering a problem running the convertor converning the avatars (testing on localhost). I always get this error message, no matter where I put the gallery folder on my hard drive:

    Fatal installation error

    Fatal installation error

    functions_convert.php [ 2392 ]

    Unable to access/read “./../../mastersleague/modules/Forums/./../../mastersleague/modules/Forums/../../images/avatars/gallery/”.

I would not mind if the avatars where not converted at all, so long as the rest worked….

Thanks you a lot in advance!

  3. Hi again….as usual, the minute you post a message you will find the solution yourself… turns out that the path settings where wrong in my config_custom table of the DF install. Sorry for the annoyance.

Once again though I must thank you fore the great convertor. Even though phpbb3 is only meant as a short term solution on my conversion path to dupal, the biggest and most problematic step has been covered by you. Can’t say how happy I am about your effort sind I almost accepted the fact that I would have to start the site from scratch.

Yeah, it always seems to happen that way (perhaps writing it down makes you think it through again). I’m glad that you got it sorted and happy that the convertor helped you out. As you say moving the forum is only a start but it’s nice to have it under your belt and it gives you choices. I considered using Drupal for a long time and tried it out for a while, but in the end I always come back to WordPress. Best of luck with your conversion and thanks for the feedback.

  4. Hi, Convertor looks great, any chance of an update to 9.3.3.0 so it grabs the archived topics/forums as well?

    • BC

I might look at that in the future, but I don’t use 9.3 and so have nothing to test the script against. Can’t you just switch off archiving anyway so that all your posts are current?

  5. Doesn’t appear that way, just tried it on my test site and nothing happened.

Heres a list of the DB changes.
